About
AFL Ranked

What is this

AFL Ranked is an independent ranking of the 100 best players in Australian football right now. Not the best of all time. Not the highest paid. The players making the biggest impact in the current season.

It's a single editor's view — opinionated, argued, and updated regularly throughout the season.

How players are ranked

Current form comes first. A player having the best season of their career will rank higher than a superstar going through a quiet patch. Reputation matters, but it doesn't carry the list.

Factors considered include contested ball winning, influence on team performance, consistency across the season, and the degree to which a team's performance lifts or falls based on a player's presence.

Stats inform the rankings but don't determine them. A player with 32 disposals who goes missing in the last quarter ranks lower than one with 24 disposals who wins the contested ball when it matters.

Update schedule

Rankings are published every three rounds throughout the season.
